Strangers or At Home

Have you ever been to an activity of any type with a group of people, or to a different state or country and felt like you were out of place ? You know what I'm talking about. You felt like a stranger, like the odd one out, like you just don't belong.

Hebrews 11:13 tells us that “These all ( that is all the saints of old ) died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.”NKJ

Do you see yourself as a stranger or pilgrim in this world? Do you feel out of place here or at home? God's people should feel out of place, like strangers, like the odd one out, like we just don't belong.

Hebrews 11:16 says “ But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be caller their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”NKJ

Our goal should not be to make this world a better place, though that is a good and noble cause, but our goal and call is to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. (See Matthew 28:19-20)

In Matthew 6:19-21 Jesus tells us to “lay up for yourself treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal,” Because, why? “ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Where are your treasures? Are you comfortable here in this world or do you look forward to and long for home? Do you feel at home in this world or do you feel like a pilgrim in a far and distant land?

Something to meditate on this week.
